The client is one of the leading American institution of higher learning.The University was established in 1976 and offers 112 campuses, learning centers, online degree programs, certificate courses, and individual online classes.The client is the world’s largest private education provider, with over $ 2.7 billion in revenue.

Problem Statement/ Business Requirement
The customer wanted to partner with a technology provider who has the expertise in mobility and domain knowledge of education and learning. The existing application could only be accessed through desktop, and the client wanted to port the existing application to multiple mobile devices. The application was not able to engage the students to use it, optimally. And, the application was needed to be developed, to support large base of users and ensure scalability.

Value Proposition
The mobile application developed by Impelsys is a robust platform, which connects the faculty and students, all the time. The application provides the flexibility for the students, to access online courses, view attachments, communicate through chat forms, save discussion comments, receive real-time alerts, get a graphical view of grades and interact with the faculty, from anywhere. Impelsys, along with their technology partner, Rapid-value, evaluated the ecosystem of the university, analysed the end-user behaviour patterns and identified key success factors for the app deployment to create a rich User Interface (UI), highly scalable and highly secure solution. We delivered end-­to­-end services and solutions, including technology consulting, UX design, application development, integration with back-end systems, application testing, support and maintenance. Before launching the application to large scale of users on multiple devices platform, beta testing was performed, to ensure the application works as expected. We were able to enhance the communication between the faculty and students.

Mobile strategy is no longer considered a separate business idea – it is a part, an imperative part, of any content strategy owing to the fact that a meteoric number of users are consuming content on the mobile devices. Why then, would a leading content provider not leverage this opportunity to offer highly interactive, engaging apps to its professionals and help them perform better?

Client Profile

The client is a market-leading global information services and publishing company that caters to legal, business tax, accounting, finance, audit, risk, compliance, and healthcare markets. Focused on enabling professionals to be effective and efficient, the organization provides information, software, and services that deliver vital insights, intelligent tools, and the guidance of subject-matter experts.


The client offers a huge pool of content that caters to legal, tax, finance, and healthcare professionals. To help the professionals self-evaluate their skills, the client wanted to develop assessment-based products that the professionals can use on the go on their mobile devices.
The interactive apps would allow the users to filter and sort questions based on content area, flagged questions and complexity levels. The users would create and take the quizzes on the fly.

They also needed Flash Card apps that allows creation of favorites list and /or customize sets by content area.

“The key challenge was to make these apps available quickly on both the iTunes store as well as the Android Store, keeping all the mandated requirements in check. The apps should also allow in-app purchases and customer registrations.”


Impelsys’ innovative mobile apps were the perfect solution to this complex app development requirement. As multiple apps Q&A and Flash Card apps were to be built, Impelsys team built two separate app frameworks – one for Q&A Apps and other for Flash Card apps. The framework approach allowed us to create new apps rapidly by just pouring in different content. The Q&A apps offered categorized content as per the content area, educational competencies, and even had a question timer to establish pace. Rationale for answers with correct answer display, bookmarking option to save questions for future study and multiple format material like images, audio and videos – the Q&A App was a great success.

The Flash Card Apps had an audio glossary, hotspot and labeling option, browse ans search options, stats tracking to provide overall performance on over 1200 questions along with results for each area were some of the key features of the apps.


Impelsys helped the client reinstate its mobility strategy by building these apps that break away from the confinement of learning only on a PC. With such apps available on iOS and Androids devices, professionals could take learning exercises on the go and even prepare for tests or exams from anytime, anywhere.

The in-app purchase option to buy any content from the client would have to navigate to another tab or devices made it easier for professionals to read and learn without any hindrance. Both the apps had a lot of common features thereby giving a feel of seamless learning and prepping experience.
